Because they're fun!!!!
Work hard - play hard, right? haha
On a serious note - I advise everyone to take a cheat meal at least once every 14 days (ideally you'd have one once a week). Note the word cheat meal - not cheat day.
So why do I suggest you indulge yourself into a cheat meal every once in a while?
Well, a cheat meal does two very important things:
- First, and a bit more obviously, it's a great mental reset.
I know what you're thinking: "I'm determined and don't need a mental reset." That may be true in the short term, but not in the long term. I want you to be able to enjoy a meal with your friends/ family/ couch (haha) once in a while - I want you to enjoy life while achieving your physique and health goals.
The goal is not "short term results." The goal, instead, is lifelong results of health and fitness. Balance is key in achieving this. An occasional cheat meal gives you that balance. - Second, and more importantly, a cheat meal actually allows you to burn more fat and build more muscle - if it's done right.
There's a long explanation to this, but, in a nutshell, my diet places you in a slight caloric deficit (meaning your body is getting less calories than it needs). Your body's natural response is to slow down it's metabolism after a few days to "survive." We do not want that to happen! We want your metabolism to keep being a furnace - burning through calories and forcing your body to tap into its fat storage.
How do we do this?
By giving your body a "reset" through a hearty and delicious cheat meal - turning that metabolism right back into overdrive and keeping you and your transformation on track!
So - how do we incorporate cheat meals into the Beast lifestyle?
On a normal week, I suggest you have your cheat meal on your rest day (the day you do your recovery/yoga video). So get up, hit that recovery workout, eat your normal healthy breakfast and enjoy your day. Come dinner time, enjoy a meal that you've been craving for the last couple of days and get ready to crush another epic week - starting with legs :)
If you have a wedding, birthday, or other event to go to, plan ahead and either work the cheat meal into your schedule by moving your training around a bit - again, a healthy balance between social life and fitness is key to sustain long term results.
What should I have for my cheat meal?
Whatever you're craving - this is your meal to enjoy and I don't want to put any limits on it. Just make sure that cheat meal does not turn into a cheat day, cheat week, etc - the BEASTS are watching..don't let them down haha
